 It’s
time once again for one and all to mark your calendar for the date of the
upcoming 23rd annual Chantilly Invitational Jazz Festival hosted by
the Chantilly High School Band Department.Friday March 21, 2003 and
Bands representing some two dozen schools from Virginia, Maryland and the District will compete for scholarships, prizes and general “bragging rights” in small combo and big band divisions. The “Airmen of Note” has described this event as “the premier scholastic jazz competition on the entire East Coast.” This event is sponsored by the Chantilly Music Boosters, and the “Big Band Society” - Ed Walker ChapterREGISTRATION FEES: Junior High and High School Bands and Combos: Before February 19th,
2003 $140.00 Click here to view/print a Registration Form This year’s Invitational will again be a two-day event (**If the Saturday schedule does not fill up we will move Friday’s performances to Saturday). High school Jazz Combos will be featured on Friday night with award recognition given at the end of the evening to the outstanding high school Jazz Combo and outstanding Jazz Combo performer. The first 15 high school Jazz Bands to register for Saturday will be guaranteed participation in the Festival. Priority will be given to the school’s #1 Jazz Band on the Saturday performance schedule. The top three finalist bands of the day will be provided dinner and then compete for top honors in the evening program. Three scholarships (approximately $500 each) will be awarded to outstanding high school senior jazz performers who will continue their education with either a major or minor in music. These scholarships have been generously donated by the “Big Band Society” - Ed Walker Chapter for 23 years!
